Sharpe Works on 8
Miles of US-220 in $24.2 Million Upgrade
(3rd Quarter 2010)
New work at Sharpe Bros. in North Carolina
includes a multi-year project to improve eight miles of US-220 in Randolph
County, bringing it up to Interstate standards to accommodate its future
designation as part of I-73/74.
Under a $24.2 million DOT contract, the four-lane divided highway will receive
safety improvements to the grading, drainage, paving, guard rail, lighting and
signage.
Specific upgrades include moving drainage ditches back, converting narrow dirt
shoulders to 10’ wide paved shoulders, improving median drainage, increasing the
amount of guard rail, and overlaying the traffic lanes with a fresh layer of
asphalt designed to channel away water during rain. Project completion is due
November 2012.
In recent months, Sharpe also has secured several other new DOT jobs.
